The study was done to determine the relationship of self-esteem and learning styles to the academic achievement in English, Mathematics and Science of the intermediate and high school students in St. Joseph’s Academy, Sta. Marica Bulacan for the School Year 1998-1999.

The results of the study said that the said students’ self-esteem significantly correlate with gender, socio-economic status, and birth order. Most of the students preferred different learning styles in teaching-learning situations. Learning styles of the students significantly correlated with the educational attainment of the father and the number of siblings in the family. Furthermore, more than half of the students had grades of 76-80 in English, Science, and Mathematics. The study claimed also that the self-esteem of the students had significant relationship with their academic performance in English, Mathematics, and Science.

This study determined the effectiveness of mnemonics on the achievement of students and whether mnemonics can change attitude towards General Chemistry.

The study used the quasi-esperimental pretest-posttest congrol groud design. The experimental group was taught with the aid of mnemonics while the control group was taught using the traditional lecture-discussion method, without mnemonics.

The study was aimed to assess the needs on managerial skills of the public secondary school heads in Tawi-Tawi. The null hypothesis of the study states “There is no significant difference in the perceptions of the public secondary school teachers and school heads themselves as regards the school heads’ managerial skills needs for professional development.”

The study used a descriptive quantitative survey type. The presentation, analysis, and interpretation of data as perceived by the respondents were ranked using the Likert’s five-point scale: very much needed, much needed, needed, less needed, and not needed at all.The sample populations consisted of public secondary school heads andteachers, males and females and connected at Department of Education (DepEd)-Tawi-Tawi Division and Mindanao State University Tawi-Tawi College of Technology and Oceanography (MSU-TCTO) Secondary Education Department. From the 259 teachers at DepEd and 213 at MSU-TCTO Secondary Education Department, 122 were randomly selected as teacher-respondents and all 30 schoolheads as school head-respondents.

Summary. Anchored on the theory that language is a mirror of society, this study “The Linguistic Phenomenon of Filipino Name Giving” examined Filipino given names and the Filipino name giving practice relation to Philippine society and culture. It utilized the field of sociolinguistics to bring out the socio-cultural explanations for the existence of Filipino names. Then it analyzed and described the names with the application of phonology and morphology. The field of semantics was also used as the meanings of names were necessarily integrated in the discussions. Finally, it came out with implications that can be deduced out of Filipino name giving.
